Surgery Cancelled - Frustrated!!!

No, it wasn't me.

I got the call Friday evening from Dr.Boe.  Problems with the anesthesiologist's requirements.  Needs to discuss further with the admitting physician who is usually very stringent but approved me.  Not sure what is going on exactly.  Will have a consult with both to determine what needs to be done next but have to cancel the surgery for now.  Will advise me at some point.

Well to say the least I am a bit frustrated.  The stress is too much and I need to take some time off from this.  I'm not sure when I'll be back.

---Susan please let "Brad Pitt" know about this if you have his number.  Thanks--

Awe... Scot don't give up.  You've come this far and worked so hard to get here.  Don't be defeated.  I understand your frustration.  I too have been attempting this process for years and know how stressful it can be.  Actually after the last support group meeting I decided to work with Barix instead of Temple for my surgery.  I made an appt. with Dr. Pupkova for Tues, Sept. 28th and I can't wait.  As a matter of fact I found out this past weekend that my cousin actually had her surgery with Dr. Pupkova too.  And, although I've never been diagnosed with sleep apnea my husband is convinced I have it and will be required to do the c-pap treatment which is another obstacle I'll need to work through.

I try to get on here and check things out at least once a day so feel free to vent; I will listen.  We all need to stick together... I hope I get to see you again at next months meeting.  Good Luck and keep positive.

Peace & Blessings... Kelly

Kelly,

Dr. P is awesome - I think you'll love working with her.  As to sleep apnea, I was literally shocked to find out I had it prior to surgery.  Did 3 months on the CPAP and found that I was sleeping so much better and feeling so much more rested!  Used CPAP for about 2 months after surgery, then was weaned off it.  Don't need it any more.

Best of luck!

Scot I am so sorry, and can understand your frustration, and the need to back off a little.  It will happen, and all this will just seem like a bad dream from the past.  Keep your chin up, and keep us posted.

Scot,
I am so sorry that this has happened, and can totally understand your frustration and disappointment.  It can be so disheartening to get yourself mentally prepared and have something stop things completely.

Don't give up.  See this as a temporary detour, and meet with the docs to find out what is going on.

Hugs,
Trish

Scot,
I am so sorry to hear the surgery was cancelled for you.  However, everything happens for a reason.  You do want this surgery to be a success.

I can't tell you I know what you are going through.  I can tell you from my own experience, that having surgery cancelled is a blessing.  I was on schedule to have my surgery December 2008.  Due to a health condition my first surgeon called me out of the blue and told me he would not touch me for surgery and that no other gastric bypass surgeon would ever touch me.  It took me another year to put together the medical team I needed to have this surgery in the safest  possible envrionment.

So with all that said.  Hang in there when it is your time it will happen.  I truely belive in a higher power and that higher power interveined in my surgery and now I am here to talk about it.

Good luck with your journey.  Hang in there, stay here, and continue the support meetings.  I'm not sure but I do think I might have been one of the longest post -ops to attend the Barix post op meetings :-)

Big ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) coming your way.

Scot,

I am so sorry.  I understand your frustration.  Hang in there.  As hard as it is to postpone the surgery, it is best that all of the dctors have addressed everything before beginning so that everything is safe and easy.

Good luck to you.

Scot,

DON'T GIVE UP!! I cannot tell you how many times I was prevented from having this surgery! First, I was denied approval for the surgery and had to appeal! Won the appeal, but then I didn't get passed for P.A.T.'s. I also had a lot of medical issues that needed to be resolved which also prolonged the wait! It took me OVER a year to get approved and passed through PAT's. So, I know EXACTLY what you are feeling. As someone else said, the cancellation was for a reason. It will happen but for some reason it is not right now.

Take care and keep on believing!!

Scot,

Please don't give up.  As many people have said the cancellation happened for a reason and if your medical team had any reservations it was best to postpone now rather than have a potential complication.

Although I can't fathom what you are going through at the moment ... I can sympathize.  Although I had all of my clearances and was ready to go for a July '09 surgery date I ended up having to voluntarily push back my surgery date to September due to a cervical disk replacement and a disk fusion.  I was devastated but it turned out for the best.

All I can say is just stay the course.  Continue to come here for support and attend support groups in your area.  You will have your surgery and when you do everything will be in it's place for your healthy recovery.

Kris.
